Tips: Slot Machines
Should I play one coin or more than one? Here's your required reading: The Pay Table on the machine. If the jackpot for playing three coins is simply three times the usual bet, then just play one coin. If the payout is exponentially larger, you should play multiple coins.
Progressive or not? Some machines are grouped to pay back bigger occasional wins, known as "progressive" jackpots. On progressive slots, a portion of each wager goes to feed the group jackpot, meaning fewer winners on individual machines. The choice is yours: Do you want the chance to win more numerous (but more modest) jackpots on an isolated "flat top" machine or keep the hope alive for the monster progressive payday on a series of linked machines.
On the average, $5 slots are looser than $1 slots, which are looser than 25-cent slots, which are looser than 5-cent slots. This is a product of economics: A lower-denomination slot has the same fixed electricity and maintenance costs, so it must give less back to players in order to make the same percentage for the casino.
