The obsequious Sammy Maudlin doing children's theater? Yep. That's just how sardonically hilarious Joe kicked off his acting career--as a teenager at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. That led to a slot with Chicago's respected Second City comedy troupe, which led to SCTV, the now-legendary send-up of Canadian television that introduced viewers to characters like Count Floyd and Guy Caballero.
And, of course, Sammy Maudlin, who Joe created after watching Sammy Davis Jr.'s short-lived, sycophantic talk show. In the SCTV universe, Maudlin--always impeccably dressed in a powder-blue tux--fell all over his well-heeled guests.
Currently the voice of Jeb the Goat in Disney's animated Home on the Range, and a veteran of such features as Slackers, Freddy Got Fingered and Happy Gilmore, as well as the cult TV series Freaks and Geeks, Joe has resurrected Sammy to host CGTV's series of Friday Night movies. Hopefully, he's learned to contain himself.
